Show your bestie how much you love them. The new Yu Mei Spring collection was inspired by the anthurium flower - a universally acknowledged symbol of long-lasting friendship and love. In the words of founder Jessie Wong, this collection is about "appreciating the people around you by telling them so. And to be bold and unapologetic in your own decisions. Via evocative shades of red, from the soft Roan Rouge to the rich Tamarillo tone, this collection speaks to powerful emotions: love, determination, desire, and serves as a reminder to live life purposefully and with passion." A message we can certainly get around.
To celebrate the launch of Yu Mei's new Spring collection we want to give one lucky RUSSH reader the chance to win a Yu Mei Vi bag worth $479 for you and a friend. All in the name of appreciating those who make life worth living. To enter, simply tell us in 25 words or less why you and your bestie deserve to win. Competition closes August 27. Terms and conditions apply.
The brand
Despite taking a more emotional angle for this collection’s design, it didn’t distract from Yu Mei’s focus on functionality. Rather than creating new silhouettes, the brand instead chose to reimagine existing styles in new colours, staying true to its philosophy of balancing luxury with pragmatism, and designing for real people.
With a focus on refined aesthetics and utilitarian design, the Yu Mei woman has become a broader archetype that encompasses high-flying executives, mothers and jet setters, as well as the previous patron saints of the university library in whom Yu Mei first found an audience. The Yu Mei woman is modern and global. “We design for ourselves because we are our customers,” says founder Jessie Wong. It is this focus on all women that Wong feels passionately about.
“Yu Mei has always had a strong focus on design by women, for women. We are a brand for every woman.”
The Spring 20 collection will be available at selected David Jones in Australia, including the Sydney, Melbourne and Perth stores.
