“I come home, she lifted up her wings. I guess that this must be the place.” - Talking Heads.
This year I’ll be home for the holidays. A small rural town called Willow Tree. Blink and you’ll miss it.
Escaping …
Swims at dusk. Early morning horse rides (before the heat sets in). Sleeps in the middle of the day. Bowls of cherries. We only ever leave home for the coffee at The Plains Pantry along with restocking on great local produce, and Graze at The Willow Tree Inn is a family favourite and the best pub meal in the country. I’m not biased at all.
Essentials …
Black swimsuit. Broad-brim hat: I love Dior’s Georgia O’Keeffe hat but my old Akubra will also do. Boots for in the yard (it is snake season) and lots of breezy white cotton.
Celebrating …
Most of all I want to give the gift of time, disconnecting so I can properly ‘be’ with my family. Along with books on Georgia O’Keeffe and by Joan Didion. I’ve asked Father Christmas for a Hermès saddle, an Otis Carey artwork and anything 19th century from The Vault Sydney. Will he deliver?
