Gracing the cover story of the Wonder issue, Yilan Hua is clad in a Gucci suit and presented in a colourful press conference. Lensed by Tim Ashton and styled by Hannah Cooper, Hua – our modern muse – is the subject of the gaze. Meeting glances on the streets of Paris, she reminds us of what is expected of us but also of what must be rebelled against. Will she answer their call?

With an infectious personality and laugh to match her vibrant aura, alongside an energy filled with possibility, Hua is not afraid to get personal. Breaking into tears while deep in character for a moment swathed in Saint Laurent, she is multitudes. Shot alongside Teo Fortin, we see the pair moodily strolling the streets donning Dior Men, Prada and Loewe, a suave pairing exuding the laissez-faire nature of Parisians.

While shooting on location in the City of Lights, humility exuded from her every fibre across the streets of the French capital. From contorting into the back of Parisian taxis in a diaphanous Jordan Dalah gown like it’s normal to secretly ordering the entire team bubble tea, she never loses herself in the opulence of the moment. Perhaps that’s why being true is the quality she admires most in others.
