The Dare: A casually insouciant figure, never without a pair of tinted sunglasses. Harrison Patrick Smith is as rangy as a beanpole, with musical chops that highlight the silly, hedonism-fuelled discography that brought us hit single Girls and Good Time. He's been spotted partying it up with queen of the Brat legion herself and fellow co-conspirator Billie Eilish. And the latest yet: Our newest indie sleaze magnate might be making a beeline straight to us. More on that below. Now is a good time as ever to get acquainted with this one man band. We're in good company – the digital void seems to be raring in agreement. Ahead, we've collated a file on the latest in the game.
Who is The Dare?
Hailing from East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Harrison Patrick Smith seems to be the right candidate to ask What's Wrong with New York. Attending Lewis & Clark college, Smith founded musical project Turtlenecked in 2014, which amassed quite the following that same year amidst the Pacific Northwest. That would not be the end of his impressive fan roster. He received his flowers from one Charli XCX – who praised Girls with this glowing endorsement: "It goes off at parties."
The internet adores him
The internet has been struck aflame at the crowning of a new Indie Sleaze supreme. His presence was particularly noted when he joined Charli XCX at her recent Boiler Room performance – dressed in his signature black suit and sunglasses, he was hard to miss standing alongside the decks. While Alex Turner may have run the Tumblr-sphere of our heyday (or at least mine), the world has alighted their sights on a new contender in the ring.
