More than once, we caught ourselves doing a double take while watching Burberry's Fall Winter 2024 show. No that wasn't Liam Gallagher on the runway, rather his son Lennon, a dead ringer for the Oasis vocalist. Yes, Lily Cole is back, as is everyone's favourite indie sleaze darling Agyness Deyn. But the closing face was one we couldn't quite put our finger on. Who is she?
As it so happens, the mystery model is Phoebe Philo's eldest child and only daughter, Maya Wigram. Philo famously took maternity leave in 2005 while creative director of Chloé – one of the first creative directors to do so – to give birth to Maya, her first child with husband, gallerist and pub owner Max Wigram. The couple also have two sons, Marlowe and Arthur, aged 16 and 11.
At 18 years old, this is Maya Wigram's runway debut. A curious choice considering Burberry creative director Daniel Lee used to work under Philo at Celine as the director of ready-to-wear. Her closing look is characteristically striking; a short black leather trench, featuring a high funnel-neck collar which, we presume, is a homage to the Bevor, a piece of armour worn by Burberry's Prorsum Knight.
The newcomer keeps a low profile, with her Instagram account set to private while her Depop page currently lists old Topshop jeans and a Fila crop. Perhaps she could make a lucrative career as an old Céline vendor on the resale platform? That, or maybe she'll model for her mother's voraciously anticipated clothing line?
Either way, whatever lay ahead for the well-connected teenager, we're certain she's destined for a vibrant career.
