It is just three days until president-elect Joe Biden will be sworn in as the 46th president on Wednesday, January 20 (EST), and what a historic Inauguration Day it will be. Following what feels like the most chaos in history to take place post-election result - where Donald Trump lost and went on to pedal so many lies about a fraudulent election that he incited a mob of violent Trump supporters to storm the Capitol building and halt the voting verification process, and put hundreds of lives in danger - it's almost hard to believe that we are soon to arrive at such a joyful ceremony as apprehension hangs in the air, anticipating a repeat of the events on January 6. Alas, if all goes to plan, we will be, and Tom Hanks (!!) will be there to oversee it all.
America's first female and WOC vice-president, Kamala Harris will also be sworn in, a monumental moment for the history of American politics. To celebrate these milestones, Lady Gaga is slated to sing the national anthem at his swearing-in ceremony, alongside Jennifer Lopez who is also set to perform on the day. Following the inauguration, the Inauguration Day special, Celebrating America, will air on TV and stream online from 8:30-10 p.m. EST after the inauguration, featuring performances from Bruce Springsteen and Demi Lovato, with Tom Hanks playing host. While the mood is set to be celebratory, the party will not look like those of the past, and supporters will have to tune in from home with the threat of the pandemic worsening by the day in the US.
