In the context of makeup, glitter often alludes to maximalism, or Euphoria-level drama. But it's not always the case. Grown up sparkle is possible, and it comes in the form of glitter mascara.

While nothing completely new, glitter mascara is doing the rounds on TikTok, mostly thanks to the launch of Maybelline Sky High Space Diamond Glitter Mascara. The pearl-infused formula has a sparkling finish, and can be layered onto bare lashes or on top of mascara as a top coat. The Internet is divided on its efficacy — some content creators love it, while others (like Dutch blogger Nikkie Tutorials) have claimed it hardly works.

Another formula having a moment is the Rabbane Glitter Famous Topcoat. Described as a 'glitterizer', it's a vegan formula that blends both silver for a shiny, metallic finish. Like Maybelline, it's also getting mixed reviews online.

Ever the makeup minimalist, I love the idea of glitter because it promises impact in one simple step. There's hardly any skill involved, it's festive and works against otherwise subtle makeup. A glitter topped lash is even more enticing — a fun little beauty detail that's only noticeable when the light hits.

I had the now-discontinued Dior Iconic Overcurl Mascara in Sequins at home, so decided to try it on for size. It has a molten chrome type finish with micro-fine shimmer that slowly builds on the lash. It's a bit tricky to apply — it flicks around — and the finish is subtle, but taking the excess across my lid and through my brows felt like a fun way to dial up the sparkle.

Admittedly this is sold out, but keep your eyes peeled as it's one of the few vegan glitter formulas out there (thus, perfect for more sensitive eyes). It's also neutral in tone for a gleaming, holographic finish.

Too Faced Disco Crush High Shine Glitter Eye & Face Sparkle

This is a creamy pressed powder, but it can be dusted onto lashes, as well as through the brows and across the lids for a dewy finish.

From the makeup artist that gave us Euphoria beauty, Half Magic's Glitterpill paint is a multi-purpose formula that's safe for the entire eye area. It has large and small glitter particles plus a mix of colours for maximum impact.

Pat McGrath Dark Star Colour Blitz Mascara

If you're into colour, try Pat McGrath's Dark Star Colour formula. It's pink with a slight metallic sheen. Perfect against bare skin and a blurred lip.
