It's no revelation that within the past year, we've probably, collectively, spent more time in our tracksuits and lounge suits than ever before. We've had athleisure, we've covered loungewear, now, it seems a new category has cropped up under the name of Athflow, and we are explaining what it is, below.
What is Athflow?
According to Pinterest, who presented the social media platform's latest trends report, Pinterest’s head of content and editorial partnerships Aya Kanai, labelled “ath-flow” as one of the new year's biggest emerging trends. Athflow can be categorized as “professional enough for the ‘office,’ stretchy enough for the yoga mat, and comfy enough for the couch.” Many categories for one outfit, it seems. But is it really so different from athleisure? With the exception of office acceptable, probably not! But it is nice to have a term to categorize our want for it all, especially if it concerns stretchy pants.
Is it a lasting trend?
Athflow is just the coming together of comfortable elements, so with this in mind, yes. As many people stay working from home and we collectively move to giving less of a f*ck whether or not everyone is dressed up all the time, loungewear has become the norm, and clothes that offer comfort and practicality take a focus in our wardrobes. As such, designers and brands are becoming much more intentional when it comes to including more wearable options for the every day. Designing for wearability and fluidity as opposed to rigid codes.
Below, are some examples of Athflow to try for yourself.
