“Details make perfection, and perfection is not a detail.” - Leonardo da Vinci
When planning a wedding, we tend to look ahead: What will we wear? How many tiers should the cake be? Which song can we walk down the aisle to that doesn’t involve Ed Sheeran? But the devil’s in the details, and this is no exception. When Camille Charrière married François Larpin at Maxim’s in Paris, it wasn’t just her three bridal looks that went viral, but an illustration of the pair perched atop a wine glass. A simple save-the-date by multidisciplinary artist Orfayo Tagiuri that took the internet by storm. On TikTok, a quick search for France’s reigning ‘it girl’ (even if misspelt) will show ‘wedding invitation’ as a top result. Da Vinci was clearly onto something.
Invitations set the tone for what is to come, a teaser, if you will. Fashion Week has repositioned the concept of a ticket into something of a souvenir, with brands like Jacquemus, Balenciaga and Diesel hitting virality after delivering invitations in the form of toast, condoms and cell phones. Now, we aren’t suggesting you send your guests an RSVP request tucked inside a Durex box, but there’s something particularly special about a memento that can be admired for years to come.
Many an Orfayo dupe has been created but the opportunities are endless. Below, we’ve curated a selection of invitations to inspire those lucky enough to be thinking about their nuptials. From watercolours to wax, lace to letterpress we've rounded up the best wedding invitation inspiration no matter your style.
