Squaring: the multiplication of a number by itself. The acknowledgment that one idea can co-exist with another.
For the Pre-Fall 2020 season, Louis Vuitton launches LV2 – Louis Vuitton squared – A stand-alone collaboration between men’s artistic director Virgil Abloh and Japanese designer and founder of Human Made, Nigo. Originating from a longstanding camaraderie and mutual admiration, Abloh invited Nigo to partner for the one-off line – fusing their individual approaches under the helm of Louis Vuitton.
The capsule collection encompasses all the delights from ready-to-wear, leather goods, shoes and accessories, even featuring dedicated graphics and new interpretations of iconic Louis Vuitton signatures.
Travel has always been the core of Louis Vuitton, with the LV2 capsule embracing tradition and celebrating this integral part of the luxury Maison’s history. Inspirations take shape in the form of a London Mod-era, observed through a Tokyo lens. In addition, the capsule pays attention to detail while presenting a tailoring-focused collection.
Highlights of the collection include a cropped Mod suit featuring an adapted Louis Vuitton Damier check. A matching set of denim jacket, shirt, pants and bucket hat featured in either blue or faded black denim, finished with a patchwork print of the Louis Vuitton monogram and Damier check.
The LV2 patchwork is repeated in bags based on classic Louis Vuitton shapes from the tote, the keepall, the soft trunk, the messenger and backpack. Classical footwear is provided in the way of a formal steel toe-cap derby and a tasseled loafer in monogram. The Damier check makes another return for an ankle boot in suede Damier, a hiking boot in sporty Damier leather, a shearling boot in exaggerated Damier or denim and a mule in the same motifs.
Rectangular black sunglasses add a modern twist to the capsule with trunk clip detailing, while jewellery carries the LV2 logo with chain necklaces and leather watch.
