If there's one thing we have come to learn about luxury fashion-meets-street style label Vetements, it's that the brand doesn't do conventional. Our dearest Demna Gvasalia's left-of-field approach has become exactly the thing we love and now, extended to the creative ethos he has since brought to the house of Balenciaga.
Last month, the brand dropped a highly cryptic video and press releases that sent the internet into overdrive; and now Vetements have finally unveiled what they have been referring to as its "secret project", launching its new brand VTMNTS with a menswear collection boasting over 100 looks.
Futuristic and almost digitized, the highly anticipated VTMNTS collection remains boxy, youthful and seemingly well-proportioned in comparison to the silhouettes we have come to love from its parent company, Vetements.
With its first collection titled "XXX" to kick off the new VTMNTS debut, we saw to new perspectives to Vetements well-established aesthetic, all reimagined with sleeveless v-neck tops, collegiate letterman jackets and leather trenches, all coming to its completion with highly futuristic Matrix-era frames, remaining true to its core in exploring gender fluidity with tasteful sportswear tailoring.
In anticipation of its launch, a press release stated earlier last month, “Gvasalia Family Foundation is starting a new experimental laboratory, a multi-dimensional platform for young talent... As the first milestone, the creators of Vetements will premiere a new brand... a brand to cater to all genders, heavily inspired by traditional menswear clothing and sartorial tailoring.”
Following on in its hype and mystery from its first announcement last month, the brand will continue its commitments in both unifying and diversifying the industry and its pre-existing cultural landscapes. The brand had boldly announced in a previous press release leading up to its launch, "100 looks represent our 100% commitment to this industry", and now, with the brand well underway with more news available for view online through its ever elusive social media account, @vetements_secret_project.
