The Venice Film Festival (La Biennale di Venezia) starts today, bringing the canals of Venice to life with some of film's best and brightest.
As the world’s oldest film festival, this year's festival is set to dazzle the lagoon city with its blend of glamour, artistry, and cinematic excellence. From 28 August until 7 September, the Lido will be alive with red carpet moments, industry insiders, and film enthusiasts eagerly awaiting screenings of the year’s most anticipated films.
Renowned directors and emerging talents alike will showcase their work, vying for the prestigious Golden Lion award. Amidst the screenings and press conferences, the festival remains a celebration of film as an art form, continuing its legacy as a cornerstone of global cinema.
This year’s lineup of films promises a diverse range of genres and styles, reflecting the ever-evolving landscape of global cinema. With its unique mix of Hollywood stars and auteur filmmakers, the Venice Film Festival continues to be a launchpad for Oscar contenders and a meeting point for the industry's elite, reaffirming its status as a cultural landmark.
Among the biggest titles in competition this year are director Todd Phillips' Joker sequel Joker: Folie à Deux starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga; Pablo Larraín's Maria Callas film Maria, starring Angelina Jolie; Nicole Kidman's erotic thriller Babygirl; and Luca Guadagnino's William S. Burroughs adaptation Queer, with Craig and Jason Schwartzmann.
But aside from the cinema on display over the next week, we're equally as excited to see some of the fashions on display at the 2024 Venice Film Festival red carpet.
