This year I’m breaking the habit of staying in for Valentine’s Day. It’s the 2020s for goodness sake and I am going dancing. For maximum uninterrupted dance floor time, it’s going to be all party (feathers and / or diamantes) on the top and comfort (sneakers) on the bottom. And for the ‘time-outs,’ all I need is 1.5 minutes: a quick face spritz, a hair ‘tszuj’ and a top-up of something red and glossy.

I’d like to say that I’ve got grand plans this Valentine’s Day, but all I really want is a good martini and cheap pizza, white briefs and his t-shirt, and Majical Cloudz’ Downtown playing on repeat. Low maintenance enough that if I decided to spontaneously do a hair mask it wouldn’t jeopardise the evening. And should a gift come my way? A Tiffany & Co. chain necklace would certainly suffice.

Shoes that are the right kind of impractical, rings I can’t afford, a book that suits my mood, an eyeliner that is black with just enough V-Day red running through it and the best bottle of wine you’ve had in a long while to really set the mood.
That being said, Valentine’s Day is for gathering as many of your loved ones close and spending time together. Avoiding a restaurant full of tables set for two at all costs, and making eating, drinking and talking the main event. I’ll be seeing Parasite at The Ritz, dining with friends and hoping the rings I can’t afford magically appear.

The keys to my heart. This Valentine’s Day is all about treating myself to the things I love most. Diving headfirst into sunset ocean swims, followed by home cooked fresh pasta and a margarita to match. Soft soundtracks to sway to in the background and cosying up in bed by 9pm to watch the nostalgic films I always gravitate back to.

Valentine’s Day is on a Friday but this doesn’t work for my plans to stay in bed all morning watching my favourite rom-coms so I’ve officially moved it to Saturday. I can’t remember the last time I sat down and let myself get completely consumed by an incredible book, so this is also high on the list, as are pancakes in bed.
If I have to leave the house then I’ll be wearing red, probably to get dumplings with my girls. Dancing may be involved later, I’ll keep you posted.
