Something big this way comes. From as early on as June, word floated of a Housewives spin-off in film form. There was a bidding war for franchise tagging before the film went to Apple Studios and A24 for production. The starlet at the centre of the hubbub, Jennifer Lawrence, would be making an appearance in the film. Lawrence has previously declared her fandom for the Housewives franchise on Bravo for years, telling that she would hand over her Oscar to the cast of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City for making the “best reality TV finale, I think, ever.” Now, Lawrence will have her chance at staging her very own prosecco-soaked feud. What will The Wives be about?
The film is reportedly based off of the Real Housewives reality franchise, which means we can expect to see opulence, catty infighting, domestic squabbles and an endless stream of chardonnay. And in the midst of all the action, expect a classic, Who-dunnit style murder mystery.
Who will be involved in the making of The Wives?
The film is written by Michael Breslin and Patrick Foley, who penned the the play Circle Jerk, which became a Pulitzer Prize finalist. Playwright Jeremy O. Harris, known for his work on Zola and Slave Play will also join the film as part of production.
Who will star in The Wives?
Right now, only Lawrence is attached to the film. As a real Housewives maven, she's spoken at length about The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, The Real Housewives of New York City reboot, and The Real Housewives of Dallas. We'll be in good hands. If her extensive breadth of knowledge is anything to go by, we can only hope her co-stars will match her devotion. Our dream cast? We'd love to see Salma Hayek, Julianne Moore, Michelle Yeoh, and other haute matrons.
