Nearly three years after it was originally announced, we finally have a release date for the Apple TV+ docuseries titled The Super Models (it had a slight name change from the original The Supermodels). The series will focus on the biggest runway names of the 90s: Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington.
Who is involved in the show?
Academy Award winner Barbara Kopple is on board to direct and produce the project. With Campbell, Crawford, Evangelista and Turlington also on board as executive producers, you know it's going to be a good one.
What will the series be about?
What can we expect from this docuseries? The show will take a unique and special look into the careers of these four icons, with "unprecedented access to the models" according to Apple.
We know the show is set to feature exclusive interviews and conversations with the four models. We'll head back to the 1980s, introduced to four different women, from four different corners of the world who eventually rose up to become icons then and now.
We'll hear stories from their early careers modelling against the backdrop of a 1980s New York City and how they eventually brought forth a new moment, effectively disrupting the entire fashion industry through the 1990s. Before these powerhouse women, designers were the biggest names. It was rare to know the names of the models in a show or campaign. But these extraordinary business women built their prestige to the point that their names became as big as the brands they showcased.
It's the ultimate tale of power, a narrative that has paved the way forward for all the models that have followed them. Today, these women are still on the frontlines of culture. Business owners, philanthropists and icons of a turning point in the fashion industry.
“My sisters Christy, Linda, Cindy and I are extremely thrilled to share our story with the world,” Campbell wrote on her Instagram. “We hope our journey seen in the docuseries will encourage, motivate and inspire young people around the world.”
