Cashmere is about to hit the jungle gym. You heard us! The Olsen twins iconic New York City brand famed for its pared back silhouettes and luxury fabrications, The Row, is giving kids the chance to be as chic as their parents with a new children's capsule, for all your junior knitwear needs!
For those who feel that cashmere sets for kids that cost hundreds of dollars is exactly what your child has been missing, you're in luck, with the brand announcing that the capsule will be available in children's sizes between 2-10. To launch the collection, nine very small models gathered in a Brooklyn park swathed in colourful layers of Italian cashmere to create the imagery for the capsule which is comprised of cashmere pullovers, pants, belted cardigans, hats, and velvet slip-ons. As a bonus, they have even created small cashmere hacky sacks stuffed with peals to complete the looks which, if on my children, wouldn't be let 30-feet near a playground.
Featuring almost no conventional fastenings like zips or buttons, the collection was designed to be impractically practical, and ultimately as comfortable as possible for the tiny munchkins. “Kids bring out a sense of playfulness. They were very vocal and opinionated about what they liked and didn’t like,” Mary-Kate told W Magazine when explaining that they consulted actual children during the design process. “We loved listening to their free minds.”
If for a moment you thought that the Olsen twins were dreaming up a maddeningly expensive kids collection without cause, you can think again. Proceeds from the collection will be donated to charities in each city if the brands flagship stores (London, Los Angeles and New York City) that support the health, education, and well-being of children. And they have plans to expand! In the coming seasons, they reportedly plan to create an offering of core and seasonal pieces, creating a "program that gives back in a significant and meaningful way". That hacky sack is looking better and better already.
