The story behind this fresh lemon, turmeric and ginger brew is simple – as a routine start to the day it feels great, but it really begins to shine if you’ve had a night out indulging a little more than sense and sensibility would normally condone. This miracle tonic acts as a digestive cleanser, flushing both the liver and kidneys, and has anti-inflammatory and alkalising properties. And let’s face it – during the festive season we know we need them.
If you consider its numerous health benefits you could spend the rest of the day thinking about how good you have just been to your body, but I would just encourage you to try it and see how revived it makes you feel. I like to have this brew daily straight after waking up and before my morning cup of tea.

Lemon, Tumeric and Ginger Brew
Serves 1
1/2 teaspoon fresh turmeric root
1/2 teaspoon fresh ginger root
1/2 fresh lemon
300ml water
Grate fresh ginger and turmeric into a mug or heat-proof glass (as an alternative to grating, you can roughly chop all the ingredients and brew together in a teapot).
Squeeze lemon and add to mug with a splash of filtered water, then pour over fresh boiling water.
Allow to stand for five minutes and stir. Consume the whole brew including the ginger and turmeric.
