Simply whisper Adam Driver's name and we will come running. That's all it took for us to be led straight into the depths of the actor's latest villainous role in the upcoming film, The Last Duel.
His latest film, starring along the likes of Jodie Comer, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck; is a broody, medieval drama sure to distract you from even the deepest of lockdown woes. And even though Driver isn't necessarily the knight in shining armour that we've all been waiting for; there's no question that we'll be tuning in all the same.
This gripping tale of betrayal and vengeance comes courtesy of director Ridley Scott, so you can be certain that we'll be in for a wild ride. The storyline, which sees Comer's character, Marguerite de Thibouville take centre stage, is also based on real events. But even if historical reimagining's fail to interest you, it's worth sticking around to witness a hot, sweaty (though entirely evil) Driver sprawled across your screen.
Here, you'll find everything you need to know about The Last Duel ahead of its upcoming October release.
What is The Last Duel about?
The film is set amidst the Hundred Years War – during a time when the ubiquitous power of men and the frailty of justice was virtually impossible to overcome. Based on real events, The Last Duel brings to light long-held assumptions about France’s last sanctioned duel between Jean de Carrouges (Damon) and Jacques Le Gris (Driver).
Carrouges, a well-respected knight; and Le Gris his noble squire soon become bitter rivals after Le Gris viciously assaults Carrouges wife, Marguerite de Thibouville (Comer). Refusing to stay silent, Thibouville brings these events to the attention of the court – a decision that results in a trial by combat and leaves the faith of all three in God's hands.
Who has been cast to star in the film?
As we know, this film is laden with a-list stars. In addition to Comer, Damon, Driver and Affleck, we'll also see British actress Dame Harriet Walker and former Game of Thrones star Michael McElhatton in the mix. Affleck and Damon also jumped on to write the screenplay alongside Nicole Holofcene; and our hearts are filled with their bromance love once more.
When will The Last Duel hit cinemas?
The Last Duel will hit Australian cinemas on October 14, which thankfully, is not too far away. In the meantime, you can watch the official trailer below.
