Today is looking pretty, pretty, pretty good as HBO has announced a two-part documentary on Seinfeld co-creator Larry David will premiere in March. Titled The Larry David Story, the feature will centre on the career of the multi-award winning writer and comedian.
What is The Larry David Story about?
In the trailer for the documentary – which you can watch below – David speaks of his unexpected rise to fame and how as a 25-year-old he was unsure of what to do with his life.
“I never thought of myself as funny,” explains David. “Anything I was associated with that could be successful was a shock. I didn’t know what I wanted to do, so what do you do when you’re talking and people are laughing at you? Comedy.”
Throughout the course of the documentary, David speaks candidly with old friend and Seinfeld director Larry Charles about his personal and professional life, taking viewers on a journey through his high and low points. The 74-year-old recalls moments on his undulating path to success and shares his personal insights on the world.
“My mother would call me up and go, ‘Larry, do they like you? Do they tell you you’re doing a great job?’” David says in the trailer “Yeah, Ma, they like me. The show is No. 1 in the country.”
Of course, the show David is referring to is Seinfeld, which he co-created with Jerry Seinfeld and acted as executive producer for the first seven seasons of the sitcom. Following on from this success, he created Curb Your Enthusiasm, in which he stars as a semi-fictionalised version of himself focusing on his ingrained neuroses and the everyday goings of society. Since the pilot premiered in 1999, David has either written or co-written every episode of the comedy which features frequent appearances from fellow comedians, including Richard Lewis and Jeff Garlin.
Where can I watch the documentary in Australia?
The Larry David Story is premiering in the USA on March 1, but an Australian release date and streaming service is still to be confirmed. Yet as Curb Your Enthusiasm is streamed on Binge, it’s likely the service will also pick up the documentary so avid fans can enjoy another David-centric show.
