Have we missed Euphoria? It's hard to say. The HBO series had us rocking back and forth in the foetal position one too many times. What we could do with more of, however, is Maddy Perez the fiery baddie with a good heart, played by Alexa Demie. Just say the word. From all reports coming out of Cannes, where the first two episodes of Sam Levinson's already controversial series The Idol recently premiered, it looks like a Maddy cameo has made its way into the show.
A quick recap. The Idol has been positioned as a love story between Jocelyn, played by Lily-Rose Depp, and Tedros Tedros (yes, that's his full name) acted by Abel Tesfaye AKA The Weeknd. Except Jocelyn is a pop star teetering on the edge of a public meltdown and Tedros is a "rape-y" club owner and cult leader. What Maddy has to do in all of this is unknown, save for the fact that she's hanging out at the club when Jocelyn and Tedros first meet in the opening episode. For a night out with her new set of friends? Since Barbie Ferreira is no longer on the show and Sydney Sweeney's Cassie has torched their friendship, we can only hope.
What this confirms is that Euphoria and The Idol take place in the same universe. Which isn't a far stretch seeing as they both sprouted from "the sick and twisted mind" of Sam Levinson. If any further Maddy Perez easter eggs are placed throughout the series, we won't know until the series finally premieres on HBO and Binge from June 4.
But given the plot which, like all Levinson-led projects, aims to be subversive, we hope the presence of Maddy Perez can add a little levity. Either way, we'll be looking to its cast comprising of Rachel Sennott, Dan Levy, Troye Sivan and Moses Sumney to lead us through.
