In some excellent news, Stans period drama The Great has been renewed for a second season and we are ready to binge the hell out of it. Here's what we know so far.
Just two months after the hilarious period dramedy aired, executive producer and lead role Elle Fanning announced via her Instagram that to fans relief, season 2 will in fact make a comeback with the caption "I can’t hold it any longer! THE GREAT is renewed for a SEASON 2!!!!! Okay, now seriously @nicholashoult I’m going to get you this time..." Huzzah.
Set in 18th Century Russia, the series stars Elle Fanning as Catherine the Great, and Nicholas Hoult as her ridiculous and loathsome (albeit, extremely hot) husband, Emperor Peter. As we move through each episode, we witness a young and naive Catherine swiftly come-to the world and country she has married into and vows to both usurp her husband and create a new Russia. By forming a coup with the only trustworthy people in the palace, her scheme to overthrow Peter grows, as does her cunning plotting and downright sneaky behaviour.
While the historical account of Catherine the Great's reign was likely charged with less sexual tension, hilarity and drama, the underpinnings are there. Regardless, we can't wait to see where showrunner Tony McNamara (who also wrote 'The Favourite') and executive producer Elle Fanning take the story next as we were left with a cliffhanger so savage, all events occurring in the final episode will need to be confirmed in the season to come.
