Beauty is very personal. When trying to decide between ‘natural’ or ‘clean’ beauty products it's very important to do your research and see what is right for you.
Natural products differ from clean products as they use the highest quality organic ingredients sourced from the environment. These ingredients and materials are safe, generally for an overall holistic sense of well being. They are environmentally friendly, cruelty free and sustainable. However, just as people can be allergic to certain foods, some natural products and ingredients may not be right for you.
Clean beauty is defined differently by different brands and people. However, clean beauty usually contains some synthetic or active ingredients which makes them different from natural products. Which means product can be classified as clean if they fit any or all these categories:
- Free from parabens, sulphates including SLS, SLES and phthalates, mineral oil, silicones
- Synthetic fragrances
- Eco friendly
- Sustainable
- Cruelty free
- Vegan
However, no one can really regulate these claims and there is no scientific evidence that clean beauty products are any better for you.
I personally like to use a combination of both natural and clean products. I feel active ingredients like Vitamin A, Vitamin C and AHA’s which are present in clean beauty products, give excellent results for anti ageing, brightening and strengthening the skin's colour and texture.
The truth is that everything around us is a chemical! Just like there are good and bad chemicals, there are good and bad natural and synthetic ingredients. Therefore do your research and speak to a professional.
