If she can’t find the perfect product, she’ll simply make it herself. Fresh faced, business minded and the meticulous touch behind the next 10 skincare products that should be kept at eye-level in your medicine cabinet; we’re diving into Jasmi Bonnen’s beauty bag, creator of NUORI skincare.
My breakthrough career moment was ...
When I was hired as a newly graduated 25-year-old by the global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company. Working at McKinsey taught me an analytical approach to business strategy, gave me a steely work ethic and provided a fantastic springboard for my career in the beauty business.
My top five products are ...
NUORI Vital Foaming Cleanser; I apply this cleanser directly on dry skin. This allows the foam to become really creamy, and you can gently massage the skin on your face for 30-60 seconds without the cleanser running all the way down your neck or into your eyes. These extra seconds ensure you get the full benefit of the gently exfoliating fruit enzymes and hydrating botanical glycerin.
Kjær Weiss Cream Highlighter in Radiance - this is the best natural highlighter I have tried, and its perfect for eyelids, the brow-bone and cheeks.
I have fine, long, naturally curly hair which gets dry and frizzy easily. Therefore, I’m always looking for the perfect conditioner that is lightweight, and yet intensely hydrating. I’m currently using a combination of Rahua Omega 9 Hair Mask and NUORI’s Perfecting Facial Oil to tame flyaways and treat split ends.
I love getting pedicures and always choose either a very natural light beige colour or a classic red. My current favourite comes from the TenOverTen nail polish trio Ideal Reds.
I never go outside without at least SPF 30 on my face. I’ve been looking for an all-natural, mineral based SPF for daily use, but I haven’t found the perfect one yet, so I might need to make my own! My current favorite is SkinceuticalsPhysical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50, which is mineral based, and extremely lightweight, paraben-free, and non-comedogenic, but unfortunately not all natural…
The product(s) most worth the investment are ...
Those made with high-quality, pure, natural ingredients. High-performance natural skincare is expensive, but it is definitely worth the money. Your skin is your biggest organ, so you really should treat it with the same respect that you show the rest of your body. If you choose clean, organic food, you should also pay attention to the ingredients you apply to your skin. It’s that simple.
When it comes to beauty I always ...
Say less is more. When I was younger, I tried a lot of different products and experimented with different make up looks (with varying degrees of success!). I have learned that my skin is happiest when I stick to the same routine over at least 3-months at a time. And now that I am in my forties, I think a light touch with makeup is definitely the most flattering.
My favourite career memory / highlight is ...
When Barneys New York, the most discerning fashion and beauty retailer in the world, asked NUORI to be part of their new Conscious Beauty section. This to me was a great stamp of approval not only of our product performance, but also for our whole team. It meant that we as a company and a brand had really arrived.
The best advice on beauty I’ve received is …
Don’t over-pluck your eyebrows! When I was growing up in the eighties, it was fashionable to have very thin eyebrows, and everyone was swinging their tweezers around like crazy. My mother told me, if I plucked too much, my eyebrows would never grow back, and I am so glad I listened to her.
The best health advice I’ve received is …
Everything in moderation. If you eat, drink and exercise moderately you will stay happy, healthy and strong. I don’t believe in depriving yourself of certain foods (unless you have a diagnosed allergy or intolerance), nor do I believe in extreme diets or exercise regimes. Our bodies need equal amounts of nutrition, exercise and rest, and our spirits need us to be kind to ourselves.
The product I can’t live without is …
NUORI’s Supreme Moisture Mask; I spend so much time on airplanes, so I wear this very concentrated, but still invisible mask during the flight. This ensures beautifully hydrated skin upon arrival.
My advice to people getting started in the industry is ...
Do your homework and then roll up your sleeves. Competition in our industry is fierce, and there are already so many good brands and talented professionals out there, so don’t assume it’s going to be easy. You really need to analyse whichever market you are trying to enter and understand if and where there is an unmet need. Then tailor your product or service to meet this need. After this, it’s all about skilful execution and sticking to your vision. It might take a while to break through, but if you keep on producing the best service or product, people will take notice and reward you for it.
