It's been a hot minute since The 1975 released new music. In fact it's been more than three years since the band's last studio album, Being Funny in a Foreign Language, was dropped in 2022. In the meantime, Healy and the band have busied themselves with other projects (getting engaged being among them), but finally we're starting to be peppered with ambiguous droplets of information about their forthcoming sixth studio album.

What is GHEMB?
The acronym has been posted alongside one of Healy's most recent Instagram posts, as well as in a screenshot he posted as an Instagram story of what look to be song recordings. Reddit users have uncovered the acronym's likely meaning though, as it's been seen before in Healy's discography. Quite literally. It's an etching on the Being Funny In A Foreign Language vinyl—"God has entered my body, like a body my same size; like me floating into you or you floating into me". It's a quote originally attributed to Bob Hickman, a self-proclaimed prophet and enigmatic figure in the murky corners of Christian internet subculture.
For Matty Healy to weave this into BFIAFL’s narrative is quintessential 1975: a heady blend of irony, reverence, and existential humour. The addition of an “Evangelism sample", revealed in another screenshot posted to Instagram stories by Healy, layers the album’s teasing rollout with a cocktail of religious introspection and cheeky subversion.
Who is on the album?
If Healy's story tags are anything to go by, The 1975 drummer George Daniels is back as his producing partner for the The 1975's sixth album. Excitingly there are some collabs to look forward to –The Japanese House (aka Amber Bain) is on the lineup, as is Baltimore producer and musician Dijon.
Producer Jim-E Stack is also on the list, and currently working with none other than Lorde in the studio. Perhaps with all these cross-overs and a recent feud-ending remix with Charli XCX, there's a possibility of seeing Lorde feature on one of The 1975s tracks? A girl can dream.

Sadly the one part of the puzzle we've yet to piece together is when exactly The 1975's sixth album will see the light of day. We're hedging our bets on a 2025 release, but we'll keep you updated as we hear more.
