Put your book down and listen close, we've got some big news. Sydney Writers' Festival has dropped its 2024 program and a flood of authors are coming to town.
When is Sydney Writers Festival in 2024?
As always, the festival will take place this year from May 20 through to May 26 at various venues including Carriageworks, Sydney Town Hall, City Recital Hall, and the State Library of NSW.
What is the theme this year?
Past themes have included Change My Mind and Stories For The Future, and for 2024 the theme is Take Me Away. With an emphasis on escapism, this program couldn't have come at a better time.
Who is on the program this year?
The 2024 Sydney Writers' Festival program offers an exciting blend of local and international voices. Bonnie Garmus, the best selling author of Lessons in Chemistry, will headline the festival alongside Ann Patchett, Celeste Ng, author of Little Fires Everywhere, Abdulrazak Gurnah, Viet Thanh Nguyen and Jennifer Doudna.
Also on the lineup is both Paul Lynch, winner of the 2023 Booker Prize, and runner up Paul Murray, who penned The Bee Sting.
Other notable international names includes art historian Katy Hessel, author of The Story of Art Without Men and host of The Great Women Artists podcast, Sex and Lies author Leïla Slimani, Lauren Groff, and Elizabeth Acevedo.
As for the Australian writers being spotlighted? They include Meg Mason, Bri Lee, Madeleine Gray, Winnie Dunn, Sara Saleh, Clementine Ford, Shankari Chandran, Richard Flanagan, Jonathan Seidler, Melissa Lucashenko, artist Tracey Moffatt, Adrian Mouhajer, Peter Polites, Nam Lee, and Anna Funder.
