The Sydney International Art Series (SIAS) returns this year, bringing with it works from three world-renowned international artists across two galleries. The Art Series will take place next summer in Sydney and will include the work of three pioneering artists Louise Bourgeois, Wassily Kandinsky and Tacita Dean. The newly revamped Art Gallery of NSW will host Bourgeois' and Kandinsky's work in its North Building.
The exhibition will include the largest survey of Louise Bourgeois ever displayed in Australia. She is beloved for her fierce exploration of human relationships and emotional extremes. Her work Louise Bourgeois: Has the Day Invaded the Night or Has the Night Invaded the Day? will make history as the first monographic exhibition to be presented in the Art Gallery’s new SANAA-designed building.
The work displayed in Kandinsky will be just as groundbreaking. An artist that lived across Russia, Germany, and France, Wassily Kandinsky is well known for spearheading the European abstraction movement. The exhibition will spotlight artworks from his collection at the Guggenheim in New York.
The Museum of Contemporary Art will house the must-see three-month show featuring the work of Tacita Dean. This will be the largest presentation of her work in the southern hemisphere. Spanning film, photos, installations, drawings, prints, collages and sounds, the work will ruminate on memory, history and chance.
Minister for Tourism and the Arts Ben Franklin said the three landmark exhibitions were a major coup for Sydney that positioned the Harbour City as a global cultural destination.
"Tacita Dean, Louise Bourgeois and Wassily Kandinsky are three of the biggest names in the art world. I am thrilled we will have them exclusively in Sydney," Mr Franklin says.Tickets for Louise Bourgeois: Has the Day Invaded the Night or Has the Night Invaded the Day? and Kandinsky will be on sale later this year.
