Season 2 may have dropped just last week, but if you’re anything like us, the post-Christmas, pre-NYE void has been filled by bingeing the entire seven-episode season of Squid Game on Netflix. And just as we’re catching our breath, Netflix has already confirmed the endgame – a third and final season of Squid Game that will be arriving in 2025.
Since its 2021 debut, Squid Game has become Netflix’s most-watched series ever, clocking an unprecedented 2.2 billion hours viewed. More than a survivalist horror, it’s a sharp critique of societal inequalities dressed in candy-coloured chaos. With Season 3 on the horizon, the stakes have never been higher – for Gi-Hun and for us.
When will it be released?
Luckily for us, the wait won't be long. Season 3 of Squid Game is already in production and is slated for release in 2025, as announced via Netflix’s Tudum blog.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, creator and writer Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed that he’s “nearly done with the editing portion of season 3,” hinting that the new season could land as early as mid-2025. Dong-hyuk also told Variety: “I probably expect that to launch around summer or fall next year.”
With post-production nearly complete, it seems fans won’t have to wait too long to dive back into the high-stakes chaos of Squid Game’s final chapter.
What do we know so far?
Plot details are under wraps, but season three will mark the final chapter in the Squid Game saga.
Creator Hwang has hinted at more high-stakes twists, gut-wrenching drama, and existential dilemmas that have become the series' signature. The confirmation of a third season came alongside a cryptic letter from Dong-hyuk, who promised fans another “thrill ride” to close out the series.
If season two is any indication, expect Gi-Hun to continue his mission to dismantle the games.
