Satanic Panic is investigated in Netflix’s latest true crime series

Sons of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness

True crime stans, assemble. Netflix is back at it again with another eerie true crime docuseries that uproots the notorious Sons of Sam case, titled Sons of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness - centred around the crimes of David Berkowitz, the serial killer who pleaded guilty to eight separate shooting attacks that began in New York City during the summer of 1976 and the rise of satanic panic as a result of his killings. Extremely unnerving stuff.

In a four part series, Sons of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness tells the story of Berkowitz’s infamous killing spree that took place in New York for over a year in the 70s, and uproots the speculation of if, over 40 years later, the case is truly what it was said to be. In the spotlight of the series is journalist Maury Terry, who obsessed over the case over the course of most of his career.

The focal point, was the fact that Terry was sure that Berkowitz wasn't solely responsible for the killing spree he was charged with, and, following a claim from Berkowitz after his sentence, that the sprees were spurred by a group of Satanists working alongside Berkowitz behind the scenes.

It’s such a claim that The Sons of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness aims to investigate by exploring unmatched evidence, strange happenings during the investigation, and signs that point to something darker going on.

“With Berkowitz in prison,” the newly released trailer asks, “who’s still out there?” Freaky stuff!!

Watch the trailer below, where you'll get an insight into the case at hand, speculation on how it could be linked to the Manson Family killings, and how satanic panic took over New York in the 70s after these strange happenings took place. Much to speculate on, especially on May 5 when the series drops.
