For years Sonos has been the last word in home entertainment audio. So, it's unsurprising that the brand would eventually launch into the headphones category. Introducing Sonos Ace - the brand's iteration of luxury over-ear headphones.
Sonos has been at the forefront of sound and technology for years. As such, the Sonos Ace headphones have the considered features that connoisseurs are looking for when they invest in luxury tech.
The brand has described Sonos Ace as delivering a "groundbreaking home theatre experience that could only come from Sonos". The key features include crisp lossless and spatial audio via two custom-designed drivers, active noise cancelling and Sonos' own TrueCinema technology.
TrueCinema - one of the most interesting features - will arrive later this year. It is a technology that maps your space and then renders a complete surround sound system in order to create a highly realistic listening experience. Sonos claims "you’ll forget you’re wearing headphones."
The battery boasts an impressive 30 hours, plus the headphone are equipped with ultra-fast USB-C charging that can yield three hours of battery in just 3 minutes. Perfect for those moments when your headphone die in the middle of a work day. Also important to note, the active noise cancelling also comes with an aware mode to allow for more awareness of your surroundings even if you want the noise cancelling turned on.
The design speaks to a functional, quiet luxury aesthetic. A curved, minimalist aesthetic showcases that bold features and logos are far from the only way to communicate luxury. Lightweight and airy, the interior is made from ultra comfortable memory foam, the contrasting inner colours signal which way to put the headphones on and the ear cup hinge has been designed not to catch your hair. And likely to be the favourite design feature - well, it's mine at a least - the ear cushions are replaceable. Meaning, you don't have to walk around with ratty headphones or buy a whole new pair just because the cushions are worn. Certainly, a more convenient and also more sustainable tech solution.
“They’re here! Fans have asked us for years to bring the Sonos experience to headphones - and we knew our first foray into the category needed to champion the type of innovation and sound experience Sonos has become synonymous with,” said Patrick Spence, CEO of Sonos.
“Sonos Ace leverages everything we’ve learned over two decades as an audio leader to bring stunning sound, sleek design and long-standing comfort to one of the largest and most popular audio categories worldwide.”
Sonos Ace will be available in black and white colourways from June 5, 2024. They'll retail for for $699 AU.
