Rise and shine little wildebeests. Do we have a treat for you? No, it's not news that the weather has finally tipped past 41 degrees and you can pack it in and go home. Although, some of you are already working from your dining table, so I don't think this primary school logic holds the same possibilities it once did. Rather, we've got something that will make your week marginally better; silence the voice that's wondering if it's physically possible to drown yourself in your third coffee of the day. If you haven't heard, Sofia Coppola recently downloaded Instagram and the upsides of her choice are beginning to surface already.
Ever wanted to know what music Coppola plays on her sets? It's a fair question. Anyone that's sat their way through her dreamlike depictions of girlhood will understand that the soundtrack is a large part of the point. There would be no Marie Antoinette without its selection of New Wave, nor would we hold so tightly to The Virgin Suicides if Air weren't the architects of its score. So you'd be pleased to know that, along with a handful of tidbits about her latest project Priscilla, Sofia Coppola has taken to Instagram to share her on-set playlist. Naturally, it's perfect.
Entitled 'Morning on set', the playlist eases us into the day with the buttery sound of Curtis Mayfield's track So In Love. What follows is a very cool blend of dream pop, soul and rock. Solange has a moment, as does Bryan Ferry. Meanwhile, Shuggie Otis, The Pretenders, Cocteau Twins and New Order are included for good measure.
Curated to mark the beginning of production for Priscilla, a new film starring Jacob Elordi and Cailee Spaeny that uses Priscilla Presley's memoir Elvis and Me as its source material, at the time of writing, the playlist has over 6,240 likes. Which is quite the following considering it was made just two days ago, holding 18 songs with a run time of 1 hour and 15 minutes.
This is Sofia Coppola we're talking about though. Do we expect anything less? Between the director, The Row and RUSSH's very own Spotify playlists, your ears are booked and busy.
