There's no doubting that in the last few years, the prevalence of Sydney street-style has absolutely sky rocketed. Once a quiet, 'if you know you know' sub-section of the city's sartorial boundaries; streetwear, its wearers and the select few retailers that stock some of the world's most sought-after pieces have slowly taken over. It's a phenomenon that should come as no surprise to anyone – given that even leaders in luxury fashion have jumped on board. When it comes to tracking down these coveted pieces, there's only one name that matters; Sneakerboy Sydney. And now, the cult store has officially opened its flagship on George Street.
Previously located in a pocket laneway that it made its own, the latest flagship store is impossible to miss. Situated on George Street’s recently renovated pedestrianisation strip opposite the Louis Vuitton Mason and Apple; Sneakerboy Sydney's 62 x 36 foot facade is constructed with 5000 Italian made glass bricks with a blackened steel structure. The result is a vision of modern luxury and a mighty suitable home for the treasures the store holds close.
Inside, the entrance functions as a dedicated installation/gallery space to present brand activations and sneakers from the Sneakerboy Archive collection. Customers can expect to see 96 of the most iconic Jordan 1, 3, 4, to 13s line the wall; paying homage to sneaker heritage and hype culture the store has become synonymous with. Similarly to its previous location and in line with the Sneakerboy DNA, red LED lighting commands the eye by showcasing 280 pairs of sneakers; while natural marble stone, leather trims, mahogany timber, polished concrete and polished stainless steel dress the interior.
During its six-year tenure as one of the city's hottest sneaker stores; Sneakerboy Sydney has built a name as one of select few retailers around the world to drop collaborations and in-line collections from the likes of Dior, Balenciaga, Raf Simons, Alexander McQueen, Fear of God, Moncler, Arc’Teryx, Canada Goose, Salomon, Hoka, Nike, Air Jordan and New Balance.
It's no question that what lies within this lair of sneakers and street-style greatness could be akin to wonderland. Desperate for a shopping trip now that New South Wales has emerged from lockdown? Be sure to make Sneakerboy Sydney your first stop.
