What to watch next if you can’t stop thinking about ‘Nobody Wants This’

6 shows like 'Nobody Wants This.'

I think I speak for us all when I say Nobody Wants This is worthy of a spot in the rom-com hall of fame. I unashamedly binged the 10-part series the weekend it landed on Netflix and, in the week since, it’s occupied more of my brain than I’d like to admit. From that first kiss, to Joanne’s (Kristen Bell) quick-witted one liners and Noah’s (Adam Brody) unshakable cool-headedness, the show has set a new blueprint for rom-coms in the current day. It’s no easy feat: while many have tried, few have succeeded to live up to the hype of rom-coms from the golden era of the 90s and noughties. So while you've likely already burned through the classics like Notting Hill and The Holiday a time or 20, finding new ways to fill the Nobody Wants This-shaped hole in your heart (while we wait to hear if season two is green-lit) is actually a trickier task than it might seem. Luckily for you, I’ve done the work. Prep your weekend watch-list below, with six shows like Nobody Wants This. You’re welcome.

The OC

Okay, The OC isn't exactly a rom-com, but it is full of Adam Brody fodder, which makes it worthy of a spot on this list. Why not relive your teenage crush on Seth Cohen with a marathon viewing session of all four seasons this weekend?

The OC is now streaming on Stan.

Catastrophe

Catastrophe.

For a healthy dose of on-screen chemistry and a lot of laughs, look no further than Catastrophe. The series follows Sharon (Sharon Horgan) and Rob (Rob Delaney), two strangers whose life is upended when they fall pregnant after a one-night stand. What follows over the next four seasons is as chaotic as it sounds, but it's also brimming with an equally heartwarming and heartbreaking portrayal of real love. No small feat for a rom-com, if you ask me.

Catastrophe is now streaming on Stan.

Colin From Accounts

'Colin From Accounts.'

Much like Nobody Wants This, Colin From Accounts charts the union of a very unlikely pairing. Ashley (Harriet Dyer), a medical student, meets Gordon (Patrick Brammall), a brewery owner, when he mistakenly runs over a stray dog (Colin).  Against all odds, the duo fall in love, and what follows is a hilariously real (it helps that Harriet and Patrick are married in real-life) portrayal of modern love.

Colin From Accounts is now streaming on Binge.

Fleabag

'Fleabag'

Fleabag will go down as one of the most gut-wrenching rom coms of our time — and for good reason. If you've somehow managed to avoid the hype of the two-season hit, allow me to catch you up. It was both written by and stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Fleabag, a millennial woman navigating love and grief in London. Of course, all this is thrown into disarray when she meets and falls in love with the Hot Priest (Andrew Scott). However, much like in Nobody Wants This, the Priest's devout occupation makes their relationship all the more complicated.

Fleabag is now streaming on Amazon Prime.

One Day

'One Day.'

A little less com, a little more rom, One Day is the epitome of a will-they won't-they love story. The Netflix revival of this classic film stars Ambika Mod as Em, and Leo Woodall as Dexter, two uni students who meet in 1988, on the night of their graduation. The series charts their relationship over decades, with each episode taking place one year later on St Swithin's Day — July 15. Without giving too much away, prepare to feel just about every emotion over the 14 episodes. And maybe have some tissues handy, too.

One Day is now streaming on Netflix.

Everything I Know About Love

'Everything I Know About Love.'

Those who have read Dolly Alderton’s book by the same will know that Everything I Know About Love is less about love in a romantic sense, and more about the platonic bond of friends in their ‘20s. Even so, it’s packed with bad first-dates, heartaches, and house parties, all of which make for a hilarious, easy-to-watch limited series.

Everything I Know About Love is now streaming on Stan.
