After two long years, ‘Severance’ has announced season 2 (and dropped a trailer)

We only just finished 'The Bear' and now the other best show on TV 'Severance' has announced season 2 (after two years)

We truly are in the golden age of television right now. As someone who (regrettably) only just finished the last few episodes of The Bear's third season last night, it was perhaps well timed to wake up this morning to the news that my other favourite TV show – the AppleTV+ thriller Severance – would be finally (FINALLY) making its season 2 return after an excruciating three-year wait.

If you were as big a fan of the first seasons as I was, then you'll know we were left on a pretty intense cliff-hanger at the end of season one – so I, for one, am glad that AppleTV+ and director/producer Ben Stiller are finally putting us out of our misery.

Stiller announced back in January that production for season 2 had resumed, posting an Instagram photo of lead actor Adam Scott running down a LUMEN hallway with the caption: “Back to work.” Fast forward to July, and AppleTV+ whet our appetites with a teaser trailer, and introduced us to some new characters along the way. But today, we've been given the next best thing to an actual premiere: the first full trailer. For everything we know so far about casting, plot and release dates, read on...

What is the plot for Severance season 2?

While the initial teaser trailer didn't give much away, it did show our favourite co-workers heading back down to the LUMEN offices and a message of warning from Gwendoline Christie's new character about returning. The official trailer was equally cryptic, however it did confirm the addition of some new workers to the LUMEN officers, alongside our favourite colleagues from season one. We were obviously left on a fairly big cliffhanger at the end of season one, and in the hopes of not spoiling things, we're simply hoping to have some of those questions answered.

Who is cast in Severance season 2?

It looks like the full ensemble cast will be returning for season 2 – including Adam Scott (Mark), Britt Lower (Helly), Patricia Arquette (Harmony) and John Turturro (Irving). We'll also see the rest of the main cast return, including Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Jen Tullock, Dichen Lachman, Michael Chernus, John Turturro and Christopher Walken.

Excitingly though, there are also a swathe of new characters joining the S2 lineup – including Search Party star Alia Shawkat, and Game of Thrones alumni and Margiela muse Gwendoline Christie, alongside Merritt Wever, Bob Balaban, Robby Benson, Stefano Carannate, John Noble and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson.

When will Severance season 2 be released?

The first episode of season 2 of Severance will premiere on AppleTV+ on Friday 17 January 2025. Each of the subsequent nine episodes will drop weekly on Fridays after that.
