Ever tuned into your favourite film and wished you could transport through your screen to its exact location? Or, better, yet, have you actually pulled the trigger and booked a holiday based on an idyllic movie or television setting? There's a term for that. 'Set jetting,' as it's officially coined, is the travel trend inundating our holiday itineraries, and in 2025, it's only kicking further into gear.
Take The White Lotus, for example. Each season, hordes of viewers flock to the series' shooting locations, from the quaint Sicilian town of Taormina in season two, to the picture perfect islands of Thailand in the soon-to-air third season. Ready to book your next big trip away? Let the screens be your guide. Below, get set jetting, with the destinations we're lusting after, direct from our favourite films and television shows.
Naples - Eat, Pray, Love
Few films have enticed us to schedule some PTO like Julia Roberts' Eat, Pray, Love. The film charts Liz (Gilbert), a woman who, despite having seemingly everything she ever wanted, finds herself at a crossroads. So, she embarks on a journey to find herself, beginning with a visit to Rome (and, shortly after, Naples). While you're there, do yourself a favour and re-enact that pizza scene, with a visit to L'Antica Pizzeria Da Michele, in Naples.
Taormina, Sicily - The White Lotus
This one's a no-brainer. Much of season two of The White Lotus was filmed at San Domenico Palace, a Four Seasons Hotel in the Sicilian town of Taormina. The show is all about luxury so, naturally, if you fork out for a visit here, you're in for a pretty nice time. While you're there, it's worth making a stop at some of the seasons' other nearby filming locations, like Palermo, Cefalù, and Noto.
Montmartre - Amélie
Also in Europe, the French classic Amélie was filmed in Montmartre. The Parisian locale is brimming with easter eggs from the movie, from Café des Deux Moulins, where Amélie was a waitress, to the canal Saint-Martin, one of the character's favourite districts.
New York City - Brooklyn
We'll admit, the New York of today is a little different to what we see in Brooklyn, starring Saoirse Ronan. After she leaves her home in island, Ellis meets Tony, and the two spend plenty of time together in Coney Island, a neighbourhood in the southwest of Brooklyn.
Turtle Bay, Hawaii - Forgetting Sarah Marshall
For your own Forgetting Sarah Marshall experience, book in a stay at The Ritz Carlton O’ahu, Turtle Bay on the North Shore of Oahu, where the actual film took place. The movie might have aired nearly 20 years ago, but there's nothing dated about this resort. With six restaurants and bars, four pools, a gold course, and even horseback riding, there's everything you need for a pretty unforgettable (pardon the pun) stay.
Dubrovnik - Game of Thrones
Stepping inside Dubrovnik's Old Town feels like walking on the set of Game Of Thrones. The Croatian city made the perfect destination for the series, thanks to its impressive outer walls, grand Pile gate, and picturesque natural surrounds.
Singapore - Crazy Rich Asians
Crazy Rich Asians shines an impressive spotlight on Singapore, from its vibrant street food scene, right down to the massive airport. Follow the characters' journeys with visits to spots like Gardens by the Bay, the elaborate venue for Araminta and Collin's wedding reception, to Marina Bay Sands, the luxury hotel which served as the set for the film's final scene.
