In partnership with YSL Beauty
There's a reason why TikTok star and model Selina Yang is quickly becoming one of the industry's biggest 'it' girls. With over one million followers on her account, @notselinayang, it's impossible not to tune in when the Melbourne-based trendsetter is giving her followers the inside scoop. Whether it's taking us along to her favourite matcha spots, or sharing the details behind her absolute must-have beauty products, Yang is in the know. So, when RUSSH caught wind that she was going to be making her way to Sydney for Afterpay Australian Fashion Week, we knew we had to find out what beauty looks Yang was planning for the week – and more importantly, the products she's bringing along in her kit.
Straight off the plane and into the makeup chair with YSL Beauty National Makeup Artist Bianca Downward, and it's clear that the brief for today's look is glowy with monochromatic brown, bronzed accents; a look that is not only a staple in the YSL Beauty repertoire, but also the perfect accompaniment to Yang's newly-dyed bubblegum pink locks. Did someone say Kate Moss?
Here, we're breaking down every step to easily recreate Selina Yang's unforgettable, full-glam AAFW beauty look, and all the YSL Beauty products used along the way – including a unbeatable foundation that will last all day, and the secret to her game-changing, high-volume lashes.
Step one: The perfect base
The key to nailing any makeup look always begins with the perfect base. Prepping your skin with the right skincare is crucial to creating a flawless, luminous finish, but equally as important is ensuring that your foundation of choice is delivering exactly what you need. For a long-lasting and hydrated finish, YSL Beauty's All Hours Foundation is unbeatable. Any need for hurried touchups in the back of the car are now a thing of the past, offering a waterproof and transfer-resistant formula that feels like air on the skin, allowing for comfortable, matte wear all day long.
Packed with hyaluronic acid, the oil-controlling formula keeps the complexion shine-free, so it's no surprise that it's Yang's foundation of choice for a long day of shows and events. Especially when you need your makeup to go from day to night. As for application, Downward used a flat foundation brush to create a Luminous matte complexion all over the skin to achieve the luxurious, hydrated glow that Yang is known for.
A favourite product in the RUSSH editor's beauty cupboard, YSL Beauty's Touche Éclat Illuminating Pen, made an appearance to help with the finishing touches – and is thankfully beyond easy to use if you're still working on perfecting your full-glam look.
Step two: The eyes
For Yang's eye makeup, her look of choice was a brown monochromatic smokey eye that felt effortless (and is just as easy to recreate), but with an edge. Our favourite thing about the look is that you can find all the eyeshadow colours you need inside the Couture Clutch Palette in shade Desert Nude, which also conveniently doubles as a very chic accessory (when duty calls). "I focused on smoking out the lash line using the deepest brown shade in the palette," Downward shares, but the real secret weapon is YSL Beauty's game-changing Lash Clash mascara, in the brand new shade of brown.
The mascara comprises of an innovative formula that gives you a 200 per cent increase in volume instantly, while still being smudge-resistant and offering 24 hour wear. The thickest formula and brush ever created in YSL Beauty's labs, Downward shares that "Lash Clash adds the perfect amount of volume to really lift the eye and create a sultry gaze."
Step three: Lip to cheek
When time is of the essence, it pays for your beauty products to be versatile. And if there's one thing we've learnt from Downward, the perfect lipstick can be used almost anywhere on the face. Using Rouge Volupte Shine in shade #121, add dimension and a pop of colour to your complexion by applying the lipstick to your cheeks as blush. The creamy, luminous texture feels incredibly comfortable on the skin, while also giving a radiance and glow that you don't always get from a traditional blush product.
Step four: The finishing touches
What did we say earlier about versatility? Downward tells us that the most important thing about creating a full-glam look is to ensure there is balance and harmony to the makeup, which is why for the finishing touches of Yang's look, she took the same Rouge Volupte Shine shade and applied it to the lips as well. "This lip product is extremely nourishing and has a smooth balmy texture – its effortless application makes it extremely low maintenance when touch up time calls."
An iconic, timeless and eye-catching look that can truly take you from day to night, you can find everything you need to recreate Selina Yang's AAFW makeup look on YSL Beauty's website, now.
