She’s the girl with the cool haircut and the freckles we wish we had. She took us to the streets of NYC and now she lets us in on the beauty rituals behind that look.
My top five beauty products are …
Redken All Soft hair care collection: I have always been a fan of all of this hydrating collection that contains argan oil. It moisturises my hair with a kick of silkiness that is a MUST after a week of shooting and running around through the strong wind tunnels in NYC.
RMS Living luminizer: It’s my number one favorite highlighter. It is coconut oil based so it melts into the skin really well and doesn’t appear sparkly. I can’t get enough of it.
M.A.C lipstick in Stone: It is the perfect 90s dusty brown. I use my finger to tap it around my lower lash line. I have given up on concealing my under-eye circles, so I use this to add mood to them instead.
Redken Rewind 06 Pliable Styling paste: A classic I have been using for YEARS that I can always count on to give me that choppy texture and workable control … this product can also be worked back with other styling products. I reactivate it using damp hands to refresh during the day.
Glossier Boy Brow: Even the most shaky hand can work their brows with this little gem. The product is very buildable and does not immediately look like a ‘heavy Instagram brow’.
My travel beauty routine consists of …
I’m a huge skincare junkie so I always pack two or three sets of different skin care lines. Many times I will layer a few types of moisturisers; starting with the thinnest essences and liquid formulas, working towards the thickest creams on top. I feel like my skin adjusts to products if I use the same thing every day and they don’t seem as effective as when I began using them. So I am consistently rotating my arsenal, while trying to limit my suitcase weight on trips.
The best beauty secret I’ve learned backstage is …
Spraying a mascara wand with hairspray like Redken’s Fashion Work 12 Versatile Working hairspray that won’t get flaky or look too glossy to be used on eyebrows. And taping the third and fourth toe together, counting from your big toe on both feet, to make heels less painful. It actually works pretty well.
When it comes to beauty I always…
Keep consistent daily/weekly self-care rituals. Head-to-toe moisturiser every single day. Then I will use Redken’s Extreme Mega Mask once a week to strengthen and protect my hair. I tame hair frizz with Redken Outshine 01 Anti-Frizz Polishing Milk to make my hair really sleek and polished. I favour products that can be used on wet or dry hair. Also, [use] LuLuLun’s sheet masks because you can order a lot that come in a re-sealable pouch, which makes it easier to pop them on and is less wasteful packaging than single-use sheet masks.
My beauty icon is …
At the moment, I think Alicia Keys is pretty cool since she decided to stop wearing makeup, even when attending big events. It’s a shame how strong the media reacted towards a woman choosing not to wear makeup because she felt like it and how surprised the media was by her ability to be confident and herself without makeup. [Hers] is a positive message to women that I would love to see more of.
My biggest beauty indulgence is …
Expensive lip balm? ... I go through tons of it. I always have at least five different kinds in my bag at all times.
The best advice on beauty I’ve received is …
WEAR SUNSCREEN! Seriously. And take cold showers because it is good for your hair, skin, circulation, etc.
The best health advice I’ve received is …
Drink water, wash your hands frequently, floss your teeth, and go outside!
The product I cant live without is …
Coconut oil on everything. Growing up in a dry climate like Texas then moving to L.A. propelled my habit of daily head-to-toe moisturising routines.
