For Fall/Winter 22, Anthony Vaccarello was drawn to Monsieur Saint Laurent’s mid-1960s tailleurs, found in menswear fabrics. For this collection, their cool factor is amped up through jackets being cut in lean silhouettes, designed to match the length of the hems of ultra-short skirts. While in the Wonder issue we see a considered edit of monochrome, the collection is a kaleidoscope of colours, explained by Vaccarello as blending “the shapes of the 60s with the colours of the 80s.”

What Vaccrello didn’t want to exude in the collection was the 24/7 party vibe permeating many Houses in the post-pandemic lockdown state. While he says he wants Saint Laurent to be “more light and playful,” it shouldn’t just be dress for bars, clubs and late night dinners. Shining through in the pages of Wonder, we see leather trousers paired with capes – or, dresses styled as capes – demure black dresses aplenty, oft paired with tights and headwear; gold jewellery and accents providing a decidedly Saint Laurent charm.
