We could all use a little more Basquiat in our lives, and it appears that Anthony Vaccarello shares the same idea. The creative director of Saint Laurent has collaborated with the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Galerie Enrico Navarra for the newly released Rive Droite capsule.
The collection will be accompanied with an offering of lifestyle items, and will include an exhibition displaying a collection of original works by the legendary Neo-expressionist artist.

Up until September, Saint Laurent will host the exclusive shows at the Rive Droite stores in Paris and Los Angeles, which will feature silkscreen, lithographs, drawings, ceramic plates c/o a=Andy Warhol, a spoon, and a denim jacket all by Basquiat. To accompany the works, Vaccarello has designed a capsule dedicated to the late artist, with co-branded items and garments such as tote bags, crossbody bags, backpacks, phone cases, t-shirts, and even surfboards. Skimboards are emblazoned with Saint Laurent’s logo and Basquiat’s name in white, while T-shirts and underpants are donned with prints of some of his most iconic works.
There are coffee table books and skateboard decks, all a nod to the grungy, New York street scene Basquiat's work, and life, was influenced heavily by in the 80s. In May 2017, Jean-Michel Basquiat surpassed Andy Warhol to be the most expensive American artist, after his artwork, Untitled (1982), a painting of a skull, sold for $110.5 million at Sotheby’s, and became the sixth most expensive work ever sold at auction. “He’s now in the same league as Francis Bacon and Pablo Picasso,” said art dealer Jeffrey Deitch, an expert on Basquiat, the New York Times reported back in 2017.
