The ‘Sweat’ tour has only just wrapped up, and Charli XCX is already onto her next era. After the unprecedented success of her Brat album (and it’s recently-released Brat remix album), the singer is trying her hand at acting, and kicking it off with a role in Sacrifice, the star-studded satirical-action film courtesy of Roman Gavras. Below, everything we know about what will no-doubt become one of our favourite watches of 2025.
Who is cast in Sacrifice?
Leading the cast are A-listers Chris Evans, Anya Taylor-Joy, Samla Hayek Pianult, and Sam Richardson. But this foursome are in excellent company, with a slew of actors announced to be joining them. In addition to CharliXCX, the cast has recently grown to include Ambika Mod (One Day), Jeremy O. Harris (Emily In Paris), Vincent Cassel (La Haine), John Malkovich (Being John Malkovich), Miriam Silverman (Your Friends and Neighbours) and, in his feature-film debut, Swedish rapper Yung Lean.
The film is being directed by Roman Gavras, marking his English-language debut. Gravras wrote the screenplay in collaboration with Will Arbery, who previously worked on Succession.
What is Sacrifice about?
According to reports, Sacrifice is loosely based on Joan of Arc, but with a comedic twist. Taylor-Joy plays Joan, “a zealous spirit driven by a volcanic prophecy only she can hear, who is on a mission to save the world from a fiery reckoning.” Amidst her pursuit, Joan hijacks a charity gala, where she takes three hostages: waning movie star Mike Tyler (Evans), the world’s richest man Bracken (Cassel), and unlucky bystander Katie (Mod). The foursome pilgrimage through fiery forests until Mike is finally faced with the ultimate dilemma: what – or who – would he sacrifice for humanity?
When will Sacrifice be released?
There’s no word on a release date yet, but filming is currently underway in both Greece and Bulgaria. We’ll keep you updated as we know more.
