In conversation with actor Roxie Mohebbi on her creative journey, personal style and her first Australian awards show

In a world where storytelling is everything, actor Roxie Mohebbi knows how to captivate an audience – from her role as Samira in the beloved series Shortland Street, to her latest role as Sandra in the freshly released series Critical Incident. Whether she's bringing complex characters to life or using her platform to advocate for meaningful change, she’s an artist unafraid to dive deep.

RUSSH caught up with the actor while she got ready for her first Logie Awards earlier this month to chat to her about her creative journey, fusing sentimentality and luxury in her personal style, and her vision for the future of the industry.

Congratulations on the success of Critical Incident. How do you feel now that the series is out?

It's always overwhelming when these things finally come out into the world. It's like a birthday – expectations, attention, joy, tears. The reception to the show has been genuine and incredible, especially from within the industry, which is so validating. Also, it's always a trip seeing yourself on billboards. I think if that ever gets normal to you it's time to check yo self lol.

You’re wearing a beautiful look from Australian designer Beare Park tonight. Can you tell me about selecting the look and working with Gabriella?

Working with Bella and Nichhia was such a dream. It feels really special to collaborate with young, talented women at the precipice of my career, who are genuinely so supportive and invested. Once we started the group chat it was game over. Bella suggested this cut in a custom velvet fabric, but once I tried the black satin sample it was just so the right choice.

Beare Park is so effortlessly chic yet comfortable and wearable. I actually met Bella last summer when I was out one night for cast drinks, so it felt serendipitous and perfect that she dressed me for my first carpet with the show!

What about your hair and makeup? Did you have a vision for how you wanted to pair these with your look from Beare Park?

The dress has the most beautiful plunge neckline and structured shoulders, so it was important to style around that. My friend Jemma Barclay (from NZ!) is an amazing hair and makeup artist and also has wisdom with curls, which is always an anxiety for me. The dress was in the old Hollywood realm, so we went a little smokey. A little party for the beauty!

How do you feel your red-carpet style speaks to your everyday style? Is there a common thread or synergy between the two?

I would love to infuse more of my personal style into red carpet looks in a meaningful way for sure. I think a mix between luxury and sentimental pieces is where I put myself – fusing my vintage brooches or my snakeskin boots with a designer dress. There is something really comforting about wearing something protective and personal when you're under the bright lights. I also love a nod to the film or the show in the fit too. I think that's a nice way to archive your career journey.

You’re attending your first Logie Awards – how are you feeling ahead of the evening’s events? Is there anything in particular you are looking forward to?

This Logies is low stakes as our show only came out a week ago, so we aren't in competition, which takes a lot of pressure off. I'm really excited to get to know the Australian entertainment landscape better, and spend time with some icons who have made the industry what it is today! I spent today getting ready with my close friends, drinking mimosas and being silly before the carpet. It's so fun sharing these moments with them and then the debrief in the morning will be so much better.

Tonight’s event is in celebration of the Australian television industry. Do you have any hopes or dreams for how you hope to see the industry evolve and grow?

I think Australia makes incredible film and TV and I am constantly impressed with how talent is supported and nurtured to be able to make a global footprint. It was a real joy to get to experience the Logies with my cast mates Zoe and Hunter, and obviously Simone who has been fighting and breaking down industry barriers her whole career. I hope that the Australian industry continues to make progress in front of and behind the camera, especially with storytelling. I think that POC should have the opportunity to play the generic lead roles as well as being able to tell our specific stories.
