Rick Owens is back at it again with another brand collaboration. Last week it was with Dr Martens, this week, Owens has announced his second collaboration with streetwear brand Champion. The duo have teamed up to release a capsule of co-branded athleisure in iteration two of their partnership.
In the Spring Summer 21 capsule, Owen's signature script logo and pentagram motif is stitched into the pieces, which arrive as hoodies - reconstructed to feature hoods and armholes trimming the base of the garments - t-shirts, nylon shorts, sweatpants, weatherproof outwear complete with a skort, alongside veiled mask-like face coverings for safety purposes, we think. The Rick Owens X Champion SS21 collection also includes a run of accessories such as athletic caps, headbands and bucket hats, tote bags, pocket purses.
The duo have also ventured into underwear, with an offering of form-fitting bodysuits, briefs and boxers all sporting co-branded waistbands. As a nice touch, the entire collection is reportedly made from organic cotton, recycled nylon and locally-sourced materials, while the collection will be delivered in plastic-free packaging produced from biodegradable materials and recycled paper.

It is athleisure, firmly planted in Owen's camp. Unpolished, gritty black and white imagery depict models against what seems to be becoming Owen's signature backdrop - a white studio setting with chipped black poly boards in the background. Garments are layered on top of each other liberally, oversized, thumbless leather gloves cladding the models as they peer down the lens, behind which is presumably Owens himself. Everything feels aptly Owens, from the disheveled models to the obscure angles, the designer seems to be carving out a pattern of collaboration that offers the Owen's effect with less investment.
The Rick Owens x Champion SS21 collaboration releases on March 26 at Champion’s website. Preview the collection below.
