The newly renovated Rae's on Wategos offers a total oasis from the outside world. The hotel and its seven rooms – consisting of a villa, four suites and two penthouses – each designed to impart a different and unique stay, was recently reimagined by Sydney interior designer Tamsin Johnson. The aesthetic is true to the laid-back Byron Bay lifestyle - natural fibres, a muted colour palette and one-off lighting and art pieces by Tom Riley and Byron Bay artist Todd Hunter, alongside a 500kg table from Melbourne-based stonemasons and artists at Den Holm.
