Get to know our favourite treacly child, actress and comedian Rachel Sennott

At this point we're still not sure whether we want to be Rachel Sennott, or be her best friend. The actress and comedian – perhaps better known as @treaclychild on Instagram – has been popping up just about everywhere lately – from her breakout role in last year's Shiva Baby, to playing Jocelyn's best friend and assistant Leia in this year's controversial HBO series The Idol. She's set to star in the upcoming queer fight club film Bottoms alongside our other favourite comic actress Ayo Edebiri and supermodel-cum-actor Kaia Gerber, but it's not just her career that we're fascinated by.

In the wake of Sennott's burgeoning popularity, we thought now would be as good a time as ever to fill you in on the actress and comedian's upbringing, career and fashion influences – and of course, what's up next for the rising star. Here's everything you need to know about Rachel Sennott, below...

On her upbringing and career...

Sennott began doing stand-up during her college years in NYC, performing at open-mic nights and in student films – including the lead role of Danielle in the 2017 short film version of Emma Seligman's queer Jewish coming of age story Shiva Baby. The role would be reprised by Sennott in the 2020 feature film adaptation, and would be her breakout role.

In 2022, she played Alice in the A24 slasher comedy Bodies Bodies Bodies, alongside Pete Davidson and Amandla Stenberg, and took on a role in this year's controversial HBO series The Idol which has also proven to be pivotal to her success, despite the show's criticisms.

On what's coming up next...

Sennott is co-wrote and will star in the teen sex comedy Bottoms, which reunites her with her Shiva Baby director and writer Emma Seligman. The film also stars fellow comic and actress Ayo Edebiri, with whom she wrote and starred in a Comedy Central series titled Ayo and Rachel Are Single.

On her style...

Sennott isn't afraid to experiment or show a little skin when it comes to her personal style – her signature high ponytail and tiny handbag combo never failing her. She's perhaps one of this generation's most relatable dressers – never too put together, but with a certain, purposeful sophistication to her louche approach to styling. Below we round up some of our favourite Rachel Sennott style moments.
