We might be nearly through 2024, but it looks like there’ll be a new style at the top of the sneaker totem pole before the year’s end. The Puma Speedcat has taken the fashion world by storm in recent months, after sartorially-savvy celebs like Troye Sivan, Dua Lipa, and Rosé hit the streets in the sneaker style in recent months. It makes sense. With a sleek (or shall we say, 'speedy') profile, and four bold-yet-wearable colourways, the Puma Speedcat pairs perfectly with just about everything from summer dresses to jeans and a knit. Ideal for the current transeasonal weather, if we do say so ourselves.
It might seem like the Puma Speedcat has cropped up from obscurity to become the hottest footwear item of 2024 but, as some will know, the style has actually been around for decades. The Puma Speedcat was first designed in 1999 as a lifestyle iteration of the fireproof racing footwear worn by Grand Prix drivers at the time. But, much like the Adidas Samba, over time, the sneaker transcended its functional origins, to be decreed the hottest sneaker of the moment.
The Puma Speedcat was first relaunched in June this year, in two colourways: red and black, which were a nod to the racing uniforms of some of the most iconic F1 racewear teams. Fast forward to October and we’ve been treated to two new imaginings of the Puma Speedcat, this time in soft blue and navy combination, and a dreamy coffee colourway with white accents.
Of course, like it's popular predecessors, the Puma Speedcat has been fairly tricky to get your hands on. Luckily, we've compiled a list of the retailers to know when those elusive re-stock dates roll around. Study up before your next online shopping session with the list below.
