Priscilla Presley's entry to fame may be defined by her marriage to Elvis aged 21, but her style stands out on its own. Emulated by Lana Del Rey, Lily Collins, Anne Hathaway and countless others, the businesswoman first made her mark on fashion with a pearl-encrusted wedding dress purchased off the rack from LA department store Westwood. It was her glam that transformed a simple dress and rhinestone tiara into the endlessly-referenced style moment we know it now to be, with a towering bouffant and soft coiled tresses, thick flicks of eyeliner and a lined pout. The King of Rock had found his Queen, and she was every bit his equal.
From their union at the Aladdin Hotel in 1967, for the duration of their marriage, and long after Elvis exited her world, Priscilla always maintained a close affinity with fashion. Shortly after her divorce from Elvis in 1973, Presley even opened her own fashion boutique in Beverly Hills named Bis & Beau – a shared business venture with close friend and longtime stylist Olivia Bis. Although her style shifted to reflect the trends of the day – exchanging her 60s beehives and shift dresses for the bohemian florals and flares of the 70s, and later, glitzy 80s glam for masculine 90s silhouettes – Priscilla is, at all times, striking and put together.
Even during recent public appearances such as the 2022 Met Gala, where she attended dressed in Prada and escorted on the arm of Austin Butler, or at the global premiere of Sofia Coppola's Priscilla at Venice Film Festival wearing all-black with Chanel accessories, Priscilla continues to, put it quite simply, serve.
