Groundbreaking evolution. Prada has expanded its Re-Nylon range for 2020, now offering ready-to-wear, footwear and accessories for men and women. It’s the re-commitment to responsible retail and sustainable business practices that’s just the beginning for this luxury Maison.
The Prada Re-Nylon collection is an evolution of the Maison’s most recognizable signifier – nylon. For more than four decades, Prada has been the distinctive viewpoint for industrial beauty, modern luxury and contemporary life. Re-Nylon is a textile that can be regenerated endlessly without loss of quality – the next step in fabric technology.
The Prada Re-Nylon collection first debuted in 2019 (the year when life seemed simpler), offering a capsule bag collection of six classic styles created from 100% sustainable regenerated nylon. For 2020, the Re-Nylon range has expanded its offering into ready-to-wear for the first time, along with both of Prada’s signature nylon textiles offered in sustainable Re-Nylon fabrications. These include Prada’s nylon gabardine – fine yet hard-wearing and lustrous, woven on silk looms, and Prada’s nylon Piuma – Italian for ‘feather’, an ultra-fine and lightweight nylon with the feel and handle of silk. Both fabrications have been reinvented in entirely regenerated and future-sustainable Re-Nylon textile.
The ready-to-wear pieces fuse sportswear elements with sleek tailoring and utilitarian vibes, featuring overcoats, cocktail dresses, cocoon-coats, padded jackets, trousers, shorts and t-shirts. Re-Nylon then expands into footwear, creating new iterations of the Monolith combat boots and shoes, along with low and high-top sneakers. For accessories, we see hats, belts and multiple bags including belt-bags, backpacks, cross-body styles and an archival Re-Edition style drawn from our favourtie 2000s era.
Prada Re-Nylon is made from a regenerated nylon created through the recycling of plastic collected from oceans, fishing nets, landfills and textile fibre waste globally. With a commitment to sustainable practice now and in the future, Prada estimates a major goal for sustainability - to convert all Prada virgin nylon into regenerated nylon by the end of 2021. A bold decision that transforms luxury into a sustainable and truly responsible ideology.
