Postcards from Shanghai with Harris Tapper’s Sarah Harris Gould and Lauren Tapper

Shanghai travel guide.

Shanghai is a destination famous for its hustle and bustle, so we can understand the temptation to overstuff your next itinerary. It helps, then, to have an insider's guide to the chicest places to eat, play and stay across the city. That's where Sarah Harris Gould and Lauren Tapper — the brains behind wardrobe favourite Harris Tapper — come in. The impossibly chic New Zealand creatives recently journeyed east to Shanghai to hand-select fabrics for their upcoming collections and — luckily for us — made sure to save space for a little exploring, too. From hidden shopping spots to lunch served with a side of the city's best panoramic view, they're sharing their guide to Shanghai exclusively with RUSSH, below.

Stay...

At the Shanghai EDITION on the Bund. Designed by local design studio Neri & Hu within a heritage Art Deco building, it has incredible views of the city, offers complimentary Le Labo travel packs, and is one of the very rare smoke-free hotels in China.

Do...

Fotografiska Museum, which is currently currently showing Viviane Sassen's work. There's also a good shop at the gallery entrance.

Stroll around the French Concession or along Julu Road in Jing’an in the evening.

Shop...

Maison Margiela store at Reél department store on West Nanjing Road. They also house the newly opened Mugler store along with Dries Van Noten, Toteme, Acne and Thom Browne.

Azul Vintage on Julu Road, Jing’an. Vintage clothing stores were hard to find, but this store had so many good bags and accessories with some clothes peppered throughout.

Labelhood and A Surname by Labelhood in Jing’an are small boutiques with an understated edit including Uma Wang, Lemaire and SCHA Hats by Ewa Kulasek.

Industrial in Jing’an is another boutique with a sister store down the street, offering brands including Simone Rocha, Jil Sander and The Row.

Lunch...

Visit Yone on the 27th floor of the Shanghai EDITION. It has the most incredible daytime views of the city and the food and cocktails are like works of art.

Yone, at the Shnaghai EDITION.

Drinks...

Forage is a cosy wine bar with a good vibe. And The Roof at the top of the Shanghai EDITION is excellent for panoramic nighttime views.

Dinner...

Have a drink and aperitifs at Cometa in Jing'an, then move next door for dinner at sister-restaurant Sage Gastroteca. It's hard to get into but worth the effort. You will need to add Sage on WeChat a year in advance and book three months out.

Poloux in Xingtiandi by French Chef Paul Pairet is our go-to for consistently good French food. Bonus points because walk-ins are accepted.

For late-night eats, head to Lucky Mart in Jing'an.
