During a time when the answer to life's biggest questions – including our to-do list and schedule – lie in the palm of our hands, the humble wall calendar has all but lost its meaning. There are of course, few exceptions; and while they tend to be few and far between, there's one that will always last the test of time. After a year-long pause, the annual Pirelli 2022 calendar is back and it has pulled out all the stops for its return.
For the 2022 edition, singer-turned-photographer Bryan Adams has taken the lead behind the camera; capturing an impressive list of musical talents to feature in Pirelli's covetable pages. This year's theme is titled, On The Road, with shots of musicians taken between LA and Capri; it represents "a kind of journey bringing together artists of very different nationalities, musical genres, ages and professional backstories.”
So, who has taken up residency in the 2022 Pirelli calendar? Cher, Grimes, Jennifer Hudson, Normani, Rita Ora, Bohan Phoenix, Iggy Pop, St. Vincent, Kali Uchis, and Saweetie are all taking their rightful place among the pages.
Speaking about the inspiration behind this year's theme, Adams shared he felt a connection to On The Road “because the life of a musician is made up of roads, travel, waiting in hotels, and hours backstage. On the road is where I have been for the last 45 years.”
Although we don't have a clear visual of what the actual calendar images look like, BTS shots captured by Alessandro Scotti have started to give us some idea. The 2022 edition of the affectionately known "The Cal" will reimagine a day in the life of a touring musician. So far, we have seen Normani’s pre-show ritual, Cher lingering in a green room and Kali Uchis perched poolside.
The Pirelli 2022 calendar will officially launch later this year in November. Until then, these BTS images are all we have to hold onto.
