There's really no world in which we aren't hyped to see Cillian Murphy back as our leading man Tommy Shelby, but there's added anticipation when it's in the form of a feature-length Peaky Blinders film.
Yes, Netflix has confirmed that it's in production – officially titled The Immortal Man – and has recently even been given a theatrical release alongside its streaming release date next year. If you're a long-time fan of the hit television show, then read on for all the latest news and updates on the Peaky Blinders film.
Who is in the cast?
Irish actor-of-the-moment Barry Keoghan – best known to you for either his Oscar-nominated performance in The Banshees of Inisherin or for that penultimate Saltburn scene that feels burned into our retinas – has been cast. Keoghan is set to join forces with the franchise's enigmatic lead, Cillian Murphy, in what feels like the most natural casting of the season (so natural in fact, we had to question whether Keoghan had already been in the show before...).
With Keoghan joining the lineup, the show's film adaptation is shaping up to be a good one. Series star, Murphy (that's Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy to you), is "definitely" returning to the role of Tommy Shelby.
In addition to Murphy, we know that Dune's Rebecca Ferguson will also be joining the cast, alongside Tim Roth (a Tarantino favourite from the likes of Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs). Of course, we'd love to see some of the other OG cast members call a back for the film, like Paul Anderson, Tom Hardy, Finn Cole, Sam Claflin or Anya Taylor-Joy.
Other confirmed cast include:
- Sophie Rundle (After the Flood, Gentleman Jack)
- Ned Dennehy (Culprits, The Peripheral)
- Packy Lee (Blue Lights)
- Ian Peck (His Dark Materials, Robin Hood)
- Jay Lycurgo (Steve, Half Bad: The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself)
- Stephen Graham (Adolescence, A Thousand Blows).
What's the film about?
The film will drop Shelby (Murphy) in the middle of the Second World War, years after Tommy rides away from his old life. Netflix's official synopsis tells us that: "Tommy Shelby is driven back from a self-imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet. With the future of the family and the country at stake, Tommy must face his own demons, and choose whether to confront his legacy, or burn it to the ground."
“The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders,” Steven Knight, the show's creator, told Netflix. “It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”
When's it being released?
The film will be hitting theatres for a limited release on Friday 6 March 2026. You'll then be able to stream the film on Netflix two weeks later, from 20 March 2026.
In the meantime, you can satiate yourself with all six seasons of Peaky Blinders, which you can stream on Netflix.
