Beauty / RUSSH LOVES

Editors have been using the Paula’s Choice BHA for years, now you can too

Before TikTok derms and internet experts, we had Paula Begoun and her book, Don't go to the Cosmetics Counter without me. The explainer blew the lid on beauty, separating ingredient science from marketing fluff. Begoun became a bit of an icon, and in 1995 created her own skincare line, Paula's Choice. It was actually one of the world's first online skincare brands — very forward-thinking at the time, and a full circle moment considering it's just launched locally into Sephora.

It's the first time Paula's Choice has been available to shop in real life in Australia, but that hasn't changed the fact it's long been known as an editor and industry favourite. The brand ethos is simple: expert formulas that are honest, accessible and proven to work. Begoun, who is known for her ingredient deep dives, even has an encyclopedia on the Paula's Choice website. Chances are you've heard of the very iconic 2% BHA Exfoliating Liquid. It's a viral formula that's taken on a life of its own, formulated with beta-hydroxy acids to dissolve sebum with pores, preventing the onset of acne. It's a Russh office favourite, and naturally we've already working on our Sephora shopping lists to get more Paula's Choice into our lives (and bathrooms).

Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Exfoliating Liquid

"Oily skin girls will all be familiar with this holy grail product. If you have deep congestion, this product helps to clear it unlike any other. Just remember to layer up on extra sunscreen the day after use." — Mia Steiber, Digital Strategy Director & Associate Publisher

Resist Advanced Replenishing Toner

"I love a hydrating toner, I find it makes all the difference in my skincare routine in terms of plumpness and lasting hydration. I haven't actually tried the Resist Replenishing Toner but the ingredients list sounds perfect to me: fatty acids, hyaluronic, glycerin. I'll definitely be heading into Sephora to try (and most likely add to cart)." — Emily Algar, Beauty Editor

Niacinamide 20% Treatment

"Vitamin C is a no-no for anyone with sensitive skin, and vitamin B is an excellent alternative. The PC booster is formulated with high-quality ingredients that don't cause any irritation to my breakout-prone skin - it also comes in a high concentration for visible results." — Mia Steiber, Digital Strategy Director & Associate Publisher

Clinical 1% Retinol Treatment

"As I have been using a low dose Retinol for about a year now, I feel as if I am ready for a more mature, medium dose Retinol. And I have heard amazing things about Paula’s Choice, almost every skincare guru on TikTok or social media raves about it and its results." — Samantha Corry, Assistant to the Editor in Chief

C5 Super Boost Moisturiser

"I’ve yet to try a vitamin C serum that I’m truly excited by, but I’ve heard great things about this one. Touted as a lightweight, gel-cream texture (my fave), it’s a multi-active vitamin C moisturiser made to brighten and firm all skin types. As such, it’s next on my to-buy list." — Cassandra Dimitroff, Production Editor
